「ボタンを留める」は英語で、

「fasten」や「fix」を使って、

とも言えますが、
特にイギリス英語では「do up 〜」「do 〜 up」をよく使うそうです。
また「button」を動詞として使うこともできます。
（アメリカで多いみたいですが。）

この場合、目的語に「shirt」や「pants」などを置くことができますが、
「button」自体を置くこともできます。
